How the Medication is Given
During an IV ketamine appointment, the medication is delivered through an intravenous line while you rest in a monitored treatment room. SPRAVATO® can cause sedation, dissociation, changes in perception, nausea, dizziness, and increased blood pressure. The FDA requires monitoring for at least two hours after each dose and an assessment before you leave.
You must arrange transportation home. The prescribing information says not to drive or operate machinery until the next day after a restful sleep. This requirement is an important scheduling consideration.

Could One Treatment Help When the Other Did Not?

A person who does not improve with one may still be evaluated for the other, but switching should follow a review of response, side effects, medical risk, and goals.
