TMS Therapy faq

TMS Therapy is new to many people, which means you may have some questions. Check out these FAQs or contact us for more information.

  • How long does TMS therapy take?

Individual sessions can take anywhere from 19 – 40 minutes, occurring over a course of several weeks. Every patient is different, and some may need different courses of treatment.

  • What are the side effects of TMS Therapy?

Side effects are minimal, but if they do occur, they're generally minor and lessen over time. Side effects can include a headache, discomfort around the treatment area, tingling, spasms, or twitching of facial muscles, and lightheadedness. Only a small percentage of patients experience any side effects.

  • Is TMS Therapy the same as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)?

No, TMS and ECT are distinct treatments. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), often known as "shock therapy," deliberately triggers a seizure. Patients undergoing ECT need to be sedated with general anesthesia and rendered immobile with muscle relaxants. Recovery from an ECT session is gradual, and patients typically undergo close monitoring for several minutes to a few hours after the treatment. In contrast, TMS does not provoke a seizure, eliminating the need for sedation, anesthesia, or muscle relaxants. Patients can swiftly resume their daily activities right after a TMS session.

  • Does insurance cover TMS therapy?

We do accepts some insurance providers and also have affordable payment options available, We will work with you to develop a plan that suits your needs. Many insurance providers cover TMS, and we can help you work with them to understand your options better.
